Arctic Council

The Arctic Council

Welcome to the latitudes of 66° 34' N and above, this is where the Arctic Council specializes. Thanks to the 1996 Ottawa Declaration, the Arctic Council was established as a high level forum to promote cooperation and coordination between Arctic States, with the help of Arctic indigenous communities and other observers, on common Arctic issues. By convening biennially, the Arctic Council will be able to come to a consensus on addressing the issues at hand. Out in an environment that cannot go above -2°C, this is the council that decides the future of the Arctic.

Arctic Mining

After the Arctic Council's relatively recent return to project-work capacity, it is time to resume the work to be done since pre-2022. While the Arctic Council has to uphold their own Goals for sustainable development practices, the Arctic Circle has emerged as a promising region for energy development. The Arctic Council will have to balance between the needs of the nation, globe and nature as a whole. Even with the usual environmentalist perspective of this council, there is the inclusion of more expansive topics that can cause discourse. While delegates can be joyous over the discussion of solutions to this pressing issue, they are cautioned to take a step back and understand why these solutions are not implemented already. Nevertheless, with external groups also being interested in the outcome, the Question of Arctic Mining must be answered.
